The Freedom Theatre presents once more JINAN based on world famous Swedish children's book Pippi Longstocking

Jinan is a free spirited, unusual young girl. She is financially independent since she owns a sackful of gold pieces. She is both cheeky and kind, she can carry a horse and she can outlift the strongest man in the world. Where did Jinan come from?

Jinan is based on the world famous Swedish children’s book Pippi Longstocking, by Astrid Lindgren. Jinan is a young Palestinian girl, a feminist, an optimist and a free thinker – the Pippi Longstocking character has encouraged countless girls to believe in themselves, both in Sweden and abroad and has inspired the creation of Jinan.

In a world of expectations, rules responsibilities, Jinan – with wit and charm – represents freedom, originality and the unexpected. Jinan is the opposite of the conventional ideal image of a girl in Palestinian/Arab society. She takes traditional gender roles and throws them out the window.

The production of 'Jinan' began in February 2018 and had eight performance at The Freedom Theatre the same month. This is the second performance schedule for the play, touring around West Bank this time to reach more communities and audiences in Palestine.

The play is directed by Swedish director Lars Eric Brossner, assisted by Nawar Hermez and dramaturge by Hassan Taha.

Current rehearsals led by Nabil Al Raee.
Cast: Mays Assi, Ahmed Tobasi, Samah Milad, Rabi Hanani, Motaz Malhees and Reem Ello.
Live music by Loai Balawi and Mohammed Al-Raee
